Safety Issues and Investigations

The investigating team for the Office of Mine Safety and Licensing (OMSL) consists of a chief investigator, deputy chief investigator and a secretary.  The chief investigator and deputy chief investigator are experienced miners with extensive backgrounds in Mine Safety.  Their primary responsibility is to investigate all serious and fatal mining accidents within the state of Kentucky.  Determining the cause of such accidents is crucial in achieving the desired goal of zero accidents.  This group would not be able to accomplish that mission without the assistance and dedication of the mine inspectors, mine safety analysts, mine specialists and other personnel assigned by the OMSL district supervisors to assist in these investigations.
